If you don't know me, and have stumbled onto this journal, then I apologize. Nothing I say here will be terribly important or interesting. But go ahead and read it if you want. This sounds like I am really bashing myself, but I'm just trying to be honest. I love my life, but I know that a lot of other people wouldn't find it that interesting. I also don't know how often I will update this, but we shall see what unfolds as time goes on.
I suppose I should tell a little bit about myself. What do I have to say about myself? I am a shy, quiet person. I am trying to work on that, though. I am kind of random. I am a bit of a pack rat. I hate cleaning. I love to daydream. I love sleeping in my big, comfy bed. Despite my constant daydreaming, I try to be realistic. I am constantly yelled at by my friends for being the logical one of the group. For the most part I am laid-back and relaxed. I try not to take things too seriously. Some people like to get worked up about the tiniest things. Like the message that they think a book/movie/advertisement/tv show/whatever is trying to force on them. I honestly just look at books/movies/etc. for their entertainment value. I just want to be told a good story. I probably won't even notice the message that you are so clearly seeing. People just need to relax. If you are confident in your beliefs, then nothing some guy on tv says will change your mind. And if you're not confident in your beliefs, then maybe you need to listen to that guy and at least question yourself to figure out how you feel. Everyone has to figure out what they believe on their own. You can't tell anyone how they should and shouldn't feel. Well that was a random tangent. Sorry about that.
Moving on. What types of things do I like? I like lots of things. Painting my nails. Reading magazines. Seventeen and Teen Vogue especially. I enjoy knitting. And making jewelry, although I do not do it very often. If I wore jewelry more often, I might make more of it. In fact, the only piece of jewelry I always wear is my claddagh ring. My mom gave it to me, and I never take it off. I like to play volleyball and tennis, but I suck at both. I still enjoy the games, though. I also love watching gymnastics. I think it is an awesome sport.
I like to read. I used to read a lot more when I was younger. I think it was easier to find interesting books then. Or maybe I'm just not looking at the right books. I also like to read fantasy. I do read some books that are labeled as "teen", but I usually don't agree with that label. I think a lot of "teen" stories are written in a way that adults can enjoy too. Like the sisterhood of the traveling pants. And most of the fantasy books that I read. The keys to the kingdom, artemis fowl, abhorsen, harry potter. These are all books that I think are wrongly labeled as strictly "teen" books. I need to work on finding more interesting books to read though.
I like watching tv, and probably spend way too much time doing it. I am addicted to watching mtv and vh1. mtv is more for the challenges and stupid girls on my sweet sixteen than anything else. Rob and Big is pretty funny too. vh1 for all their amazing pop culture obsessed shows. I love americas next top model. Law and Order. Mostly special victims unit. I love heroes too. There are also the shows that I enjoy, but don't watch religiously. Smallville, House, Scrubs, Robot Chicken, probably a few others too. I am also addicted the the foodnetwork challenge, but I enjoy the pastry competitions more than the grill offs. I also love the 10th Kingdom, which was actually a miniseries. If you haven't seen it go find a copy and watch it now. And of course there will always be a special place in my heart for the classic kids shows of the 90's.
As for movies, I love pretty much everything. There are just too many to name. Teeny bopper movies are pretty much amazing. I also love lots of 80's movies that were way before my time, but I've seen them many times because of my older siblings. I enjoy most animated movies. Unfortunately, some of the most recent animated movies just look ridiculus, and it seems that hand drawn movies are pretty much a thing of the past. Everything is 3 dimensional now. I don't have a problem with 3D, there are a lot of good 3D movies out there. It's just that animated movies have a certain quality about them that is hard to recreate with a computer. I also like action movies and thrillers. I like movies that you have to think about or see more than once, but not movies that use that plot device as a copout for not properly developing a storyline. I like some horror movies, but not ones that rely on gore and grossness to scare the viewers. Is it really that hard to come up with something scary? The only thing the studios can think of is to throw buckets of blood and vomit-inducing images at us. Comedies are nice, but they can sometimes go into the gross out mode as well. I can only handle so many fart jokes before I get the uncontrollable urge to throw something at the screen. And of course, I like fantasy and sci-fi movies. Movie musicals are pretty good as well. And I like movie adaptations of books, as long as they don't stray too far from the original story. Its fine if the director wants to take some poetic license with the script, but I don't appreciate when they just destroy a perfectly good story because they think they can create something better. I also don't mind movie remakes, as long as they are done well.
What about music? I enjoy music. I will listen to pretty much anything you want to play for me. I don't really like heavy metal, or any scary goth music. I like pop music. R&B is good. I enjoy some rap. Latin and salsa type music is fun. Oldies. Pretty much everything popular in the 90's. The more mainstream punk rock. Random bubble gum pop bands that you've probably never heard of. Country is good too. I played the viola for almost eight years, so of course I like classical stuff. I also like some musicals.
Would you like to know some other random things about me? I spend way too much time on the internet. I love playing online games. I like to color. It keeps my inner child happy. I hate shaving my legs. It takes too much time, and I never show them off anyway. I love reading Harry Potter fan fiction. When I am alone, I can spend hours making faces at myself in the mirror.
Wow. If you read all of this I am impressed. I am impressed with myself for typing all of this. I think this is the most I've ever written about myself in one sitting. Well, there you have it. That's all I feel like putting in here, so I hope you enjoyed it. And if you really want to know anything else about me, just talk to me.
I feel like I should note that I am not a writer. Therefore proper grammar/spelling/punctuation is not really my first priority. Writing is just a way for me to get my feelings out. I didn't start this journal to be profound. I started it so I would have a place to vent my feelings, and give people a chance to get to know me if they are so inclined. Sometimes I will probably sound like an angsty 13 year old. That is just me trying to get things off my chest as quickly as possible without really having to think about them too much.
